Well, between a holiday and home improvements it would be fair to say that not a lot of turning has been happening in the last two months. However, something I will share is a bit of furniture making that I have been up to.

First, a Yew mirror. I bought some Yew and birdseye maple timber to make a cabinet and worktop but in the end, changed the Yew to some Cherry. This left me with a lovely bit of Yew with a vibrant stripe of heartwood. So, I cut 4 pieces, mitred and routed them, made a frame and put 2 pieces of brass rod through each side to strengthen the joints. I then found a website making mirrored sheets of plastic, ordered some and it worked out perfectly!

Next was the cabinet. The space is only 8 inches deep and just under 36 wide so it was more a labour of love than a massive utility benefit. I was lucky to find some very heavily figured birdseye maple, so I made a pine frame, attached all the inch thick maple, made a shelf and then had to panel the base with oak boards to finish it (birdseye maple is dear and I ran out!).

Some photos below this post, hope you like them!
