The workshop has been pretty quiet this week. Turning wise there has only been one production, an 8 inch by 4 inch spalted beech wood cannister as a special request from a friend to be used as an urn for a beloved pet that has passed. It was, of course, my honour to do this to the best of my ability, although the depth of the piece was a first for me, it would be fair to say, the deeper the piece the trickier it is to get right.

Outside of turning I also had a special request for a 60cm by 20cm double live edge charcuterie Board. I sourced a beautiful piece of elm from ‘The Rustic Woodbarn’ ( @therusticwoodbarn ) and after a tremendous amount of sanding and two good coats of Gilboys Hard Wax Oil ( @gilboysantiques ) the work was done and a thing of beauty was created.

Finally, the great bagatelle table for Pottergate Golf Club was finished. This has been a bit of a slow burner for delivery in April. The finishing touches were varnish over the golden numbers and letters and rubber tips for the plungers to prevent the steel tips from mushrooming. I’m looking forwards to delivering it in a few weeks.

Next stop for Turning Dreams is a visit to the East Midlands Woodworking Show in Newark on Saturday 9th March. We are there as a guest not an exhibitor, but are excited to attend and see the demos and great stands on show. Catch you next week!

In the meantime, see below (or the original blog entry if you’re reading this on FB or LinkedIn) for pictures that go with this week’s story…
